A few of the most popular rock opera tunes from the 1960s and 1970s were revived by a group of opera singers on stage for the first time on Sunday.
The group is called the Rock Opera Music Hall of Fame, and they’re putting on the first show at the Rockin’ Opera Festival, an annual festival of the musical tradition in St. Louis.
It’s the first one in more than 50 years, said rock opera singer Jennifer Lee, who performed the original song in the early 1960s at the Apollo Theatre in Washington, D.C.
She said it’s one of the biggest hits of her career, and it still plays at Carnegie Hall concerts.
The new song is by the American band, the St. John’s Performing Arts Society, Lee said.
The Rock Opera Festival runs through March.
