The best NFL teams to play are the ones who can win and win big.
It’s a formula that makes for successful franchises.
But there are some who aren’t quite ready to embrace it, and it could be the reason why a lot of teams are struggling in the playoffs.
Cleveland Browns: The Browns are one of the NFL’s most successful franchises with an 82-63 record, a Super Bowl championship and two division titles.
But the Browns were also a long shot to make the playoffs last season, and that didn’t help them make the postseason last season either.
That was a team who, in the year before the Browns won the title, had a combined record of 48-27, the worst mark in the NFL in 2016.
The Browns will be hoping the season they had last season can turn around, especially after losing two top receivers in the offseason.
Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers are the only team with a winning record that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2012.
That year, they went 9-7, with three AFC South titles and a pair of NFC East titles.
Since then, they’ve lost three consecutive games, lost their starting quarterback and have one of their worst starting lineups in recent years.
Pittsburgh has lost five straight games.
Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens are one year removed from being one of those teams who were supposed to make a deep playoff run.
But they’ve had to play on a short week in the early part of the season, losing a pair at home and a game to the Panthers in Week 3.
The Ravens have been struggling in recent weeks, and they might be looking at a stretch of four straight games with four losses in five.
New Orleans Saints: The Saints are a franchise with a deep roster and a talented roster of young players, but they’ve been struggling since the end of the 2016 season.
New England Patriots: The Patriots are one half of the AFC South that has won eight consecutive games.
That streak started with the Patriots beating the Ravens in Week 2, then the Ravens beating the Browns in Week 6, and now the Saints are on the verge of winning their fifth straight game.
It seems unlikely that New England will make it through the playoffs, especially since they lost star wide receiver Julian Edelman.
Houston Texans: The Texans had a fantastic season in 2016, winning the AFC West with an 11-5 record and finishing fourth in the AFC North with a 9-5 mark.
But their season has come to an end.
The Texans are currently in fifth place, and the team hasn’t won a playoff game since their bye in Week 13.
They also lost their top cornerback and starting running back in free agency in the past year.
New York Giants: The Giants have been a top-10 team in each of the past three seasons, but have only made the postseason once since 2008.
This year is their sixth consecutive season in the bottom of the division, which has left them with a record of 25-37.
They are currently one game behind the Browns for the final playoff spot in the division.
Detroit Lions: The Lions have one winning season in their history, and just lost their quarterback, but that’s the only thing holding them back from making the playoffs this year.
They have won four straight and are in sixth place in the NFC North with an 8-5 season.
Detroit is on pace for four straight wins and the fourth straight winless season.
Indianapolis Colts: The Colts have a winning history, but are in their sixth season with a losing record.
They had two top draft picks and a top receiver in Reggie Wayne, but their offense has struggled in recent seasons.
They finished last in yards per play allowed in 2016 and haven’t made it out of the first round since 2012 with three straight losses.
The Colts are currently ranked 22nd in Football Outsiders’ defensive DVOA.
Pittsburgh Pirates: The Pirates are one game ahead of the Patriots in the Eastern Conference, but only have two wins in their past five games.
The Pirates had the third-best record in the league in 2016 but lost a pair to the Saints.
They could use another winning season.
Atlanta Falcons: The Falcons have a young team that could have a good shot at a playoff berth.
But it might not happen.
Atlanta has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play all year, and a lot could change in 2017.
The Falcons are currently at 10-7 and currently one loss away from being eliminated from the playoffs for the third time in the last four seasons.
San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers have had a pretty good season in 2017, winning six straight games and making the postseason for the first time since 2011.
But a lot can change in a short amount of time.
The 49er offense has suffered from injuries this year, as has their defense.
The defense has struggled as well.
They rank 23rd in Footballs Upside Rating and 29th in DVOA, which means the 49ers defense hasn’t
